From the supplier: Agriculture in Hungary accounts for 20% of the country's GDP, and agriculture and the food industry account for 20% of employment and approximately 27% of convertible currency exports. Hungary is attempting agricultural reform that will privatize farming and will allow those involved in farming to reap monetary rewards for success and bankruptcy for failure. Three areas must be addressed for agricultural reform to be successful: ownership of land and assets, the reduction of subsidies and price controls, and the development of the domestic and export markets. The government has implemented an agenda for reform that includes creating the conditions for the assignment of ownership rights. The government has implemented policies addressing debt-reduction, development of the land market, producer pricing, subsidy reduction, and the removal of domestic trade constraints.
